SYSTEMS AND OPERATOR CONSOLES
Whippendell Marine designs, manufactures and commissions control panels and consoles for the operation of complex systems on board ships and submarines.

We use advanced PLCs, sophisticated Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and the latest drive technology to ensure optimum performance, ease of use and minimum maintenance.

We can also provide more traditional hardwired electro-mechanical solutions, as required and have extensive experience of applying leading edge COTS technology to naval applications, whilst maintaining compliance with all military and defence standard requirements in areas such as shock, vibration and EMC.

Our engineering solutions provide control of electrical systems, machinery and equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic plant including compressors, davits & cranes, deck machinery, steering gear, lifts, stabilisers and RAS/FAS gear. We have experience in building solutions around market leading brands, including Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckoff, GE, and Vacon.

Whilst the use of these COTS technologies provides many benefits for the customer, including reduced cost and design time, wide availability of spares and support, increased reliability and ease of maintenance and fault finding, such items are rarely suitable for naval applications without enhancement. Our experience in this area means we can deliver effective COTS solutions capable of withstanding the environmental and vibrational challenges on board ships and submarines.

Our solutions can be found on the most critical plant on board UK and wordwide naval vessels.

Standards

Operator Consoles

At the heart of every critical system on-board a submarine or surface vessel lies an operator console or Human Machine Interface (HMI).  These consoles are vital to the operational integrity of the associated system whether it be a combat system, platform management or communications system.

Whippendell has an enviable reputation in the design, qualification, and manufacture of operator consoles.  Our engineering team work closely with not only the system designer but also the end user, ensuring that all aspects from the requirement capture to the human factors have been considered enabling the develop an optimised solution.

We find that interfacing with the user greatly enhances the finished product.  Often on naval platform space is at a premium, our development work allows us to perfect the console, and in some cases give space back to the users.

Consoles can range from single to multiple display, in either horizontal or vertical orientation, incorporating touch screens and KVM switching.  They can be stand up or sit down with the addition of a commander display panel.
